About this Course
Treatment of adult orthodontic patients often necessitate the expertise from other specialties.
The first speaker will present an adult patient with a skeletal malocclusion together with a history of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) problem. The use of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and intraoral OSA appliances provide temporary relief of OSA symptoms.
The use of Maxillomandibular Advancement (MMA) procedure is a definitive treatment for adult patients with OSA problem. How much do we know about this treatment modality and when is this
procedure indicated for adult OSA patients?
The second speaker will present an adult patient with moderate crowding together with transverse deficiency. Orthodontic expansion in the lower arch is limited. The use of Periodontal Accelerated
Osteogenic Orthodontic procedure can allow mandibular teeth to move beyond the basal bone.
What type of patients is indicated for this procedure and what is the success rate? Would this
surgical procedure accelerate orthodontic tooth movement?

Dr. Ngan is an Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong and a Guest Professor at Wuhan University, School of Stomatology, China. Dr. Ngan holds a dental degree from Harvard University, School of Dental Medicine and Certificates in Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry and Hospital Dentistry from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine / Children Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Ngan’s research focuses on growth and development, appliance therapy and implantology. He has published over 160 peer-reviewed articles and 180 abstracts. He is a member of the Angle East (Eastern Component of the Edward H. Angle Society), a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

With 30 years of Orthodontic clinical experience in New York, China and Japan, Dr. Guan is helping both children and adults to align their teeth and to create a beautiful smile. As a Clinical Associate Professor, he teaches Clinical Orthodontics for the Postgraduate Residency Program at University of Pennsylvania.
As an American Board certified Orthodontist (speaks English, Chinese, and Japanese), Dr. Guan provides many treatment options to his patients, including regular Orthodontic braces and Invisalign.

Upon completion of his dental and residency training in India, Dr. Salman moved to the US to pursue an implant fellowship program, supported by a scholarship from International Team for Implantology. Later, he completed Periodontics Residency program at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Salman has significant patient care, teaching and research experience for more than 20 years. Dr. Salman was honored with the Leslie M. Salkin Achievement award from American Board of Periodontology for achieving top score in the oral examination. He is very active in organized dentistry and is currently representing the American Academy of Periodontology in ADA’s Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition Program. He is a fellow of International Team for Implantology, American College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy. His research interests include computer-assisted implant surgery, implant loading protocols, hard and soft tissue augmentation around natural teeth and dental implants. Dr. Salman lectures nationally and internationally and has many peer reviewed publications to his credit.
